Most Brilliant Blog Award

Written by Alfonso Muñoz on August 19, 2008 – 12:45 pm

My friend Monika from Argentina awarded me with this special prize. It is very comforting to know that people remember you in spite of blogging in other language. Few months ago I wrote two versions of Binary Ant, Spanish and English, but finally I opted for stopping the Spanish (temporarily?) and carry on only with the English. Through the Spanish blog I meet some very interesting bloggers but I have to admit that since I stopped it I lost contact a bit… :( … But if people still remember you is a good signal :D

If you speak Spanish I recommend you to take and eye at Monika’s blog. She writes about music, ramblings and very interesting things :)

Thanks for the award Monika!

Google Adsense Personal Identification Number

Written by Alfonso Muñoz on August 19, 2008 – 12:24 pm

Also known as Adsense PIN, the Adsense Personal Identification Number is a code that Adsense sends you when you reach a certain amount to enable payments for your account. This amount is not an exorbitant one, just $10. When you reach that amount Google sends you a postal letter with the details, step by step, you must follow in order to enable payments… and here is my letter!

SEO, Marketing, Blogging

Basically you have to log in your Adsense account and enter your PIN code in the indicated tab.

I’m not working to make Adsense a huge source of income, I just installed and optimized it. At the beginning I was getting a very poor CTR, just a 0,4% … horrible… but after some changes nowadays I’m getting almost a 2% of CTR. Considering the topic of this blog it is not a bad number.

Do you want to know what I did to improve CTR? Here are some post:

Perhaps these articles could help you to generate a source of income from Adsense :)

Feed Analysis: Feedburner Analizer Tool

Written by Alfonso Muñoz on August 7, 2008 – 7:36 am

I suppose everyone knows what is Feedburner. This is a Google service which gives you more control over the management of your feeds and also provides certain tools to monetize or promote them easier. At the beginning it wasn’t a Google service but some months ago big G acquired it.

The Feedburner Analyzer was developed by me months ago when I was blogging in my Spanish blog. Then I started this English version but my laziness keep the tool in Spanish language, unprofessional detail, I admit it. Yesterday I decided that it was time to translate it to English and share it with you.

What is the purpose of the Feedburner Analyzer? This tool shows you your progress in the number of subscriptions to your feed. It consists of two kind of graphs:

  1. Line chart with the number of subscribers and hits day by day.
  2. Column chart that compares the number of subscribers of a month with the number of subscribers of the previous one.

Here you have a pic of the line chart:

I think it is worth to take a look at it. How to use it?

  1. First you need to have active the Awarenes API to allow the access to your stats. Log into your user account > Publicize > Awareness API. Active it and save.
  2. You have to write in the tool’s textbox your Feedburner ID or the complete URL to your feeds. For example in my case I have to write binaryantdotcom or http://feeds.feedburner.com/BinaryAntDotCom.

That’s all. I hope you enjoy it :) .

July Contest Winners

Written by Alfonso Muñoz on August 5, 2008 – 1:22 pm

Did I say winners? I wanted to say winner :) . Yes, just one contestant took part in the contest in spite of having prizes for six bloggers. Ok, I don’t mind, let’s congrat the winner, Sherry! Our winner has a personal blog in which she writes about ramblings. Nice and colorful blog Sherry. You can see her ad in the sidebar, beside the contest ad (currently I don’t have any other ad to place there). Also she is 600EC richer, I decided to send her 100 extra EC because I was working out and I couldn’t place her ad the 1st of August.

And the rest of you, lazy bloggers, you missed the chance to get a PR2 link and 500EC. But don’t worry, perhaps in a few weeks I launch another contest, it all depends on how busy I could be.

New Google Dance and New PR

Written by Alfonso Muñoz on July 28, 2008 – 7:27 am

The rumor of a new Google Dance was around several blogs and some bloggers stated that at the end on July we would get a new shake on our PR’s. They were right and it happened few days ago.

Before this shake Binary Ant didn’t have PR yet and now this blog shows PR2. I didn’t expected a higher one because I didn’t work very hard in my link building. When I was running my Spanish blog I jumped from unasigned PR to PR3 and I must confess that it disappointed me because perhaps I expected to jump to PR4. I worked quite more the link building in that occasion.

So now I have PR2, not too bad to the little work done. This means that Binary Ant is growing day by day. Also Alexa’s and Compete’s ranks are improving too.

It is true that two months ago this blog had more activity but now I’m running a couple of web projects in which I’m testing my new marketing knowledge. I’m testing tools and strategies following the well known tactic of “trial & error”. I think it has no sense to talk about marketing without the real experience of success so I prefer to wait to have solid results before give some advice.

Finally a SEO advice to improve your PR: work on your link building. Get as many external links as possible, no matter how irrelevant a link could be, a link is a link and it is worth to get it. Where you can get links?

  • From forums, place your link in your sign.
  • From web directories: look for directories to include your site.
  • From comments in other blogs: look for “dofollow” blogs and leave there some words.
  • From other blogs if a link exchange is possible, but this point involve two-way links so I put less importance over this one unless the other blog had a very interesting PR.
