Make A Living Online Versus 9-5 Office Job
Written by Alfonso Muñoz on June 19, 2008 – 10:44 amThis is a thought that comes quite often to my mind not because I’m working on it but when you read many blogs everyday there is a high percentage of MMO (Make Money Online) among them, some achieve it and some not. When I find a blogger who makes a living from his blog income I always think of how great would be achieve this goal. On A recent post (Taking Advantage Of The Time Zone) I wrote that I leave home in the morning at 8am and I come back at 7pm everyday (11hours) so Paul B, a blogger who earns money and make a living from his blog, exclaimed it was a lot of time. Yes, it is.
So sometimes I think of it and the advantages I’d have if I achieved it. Here are some positive points on this matter:
- You could wake up at any time, and not at 7am. This is one of the things it is more difficult for me to stand. I hate waking up early in the morning and I have to admit that sometimes I arrive late at work.
- You could work the amount of hours you consider enough while in an office job you have to stay there 8 hours day after day, no matter if it is raining, it is sunny, you want to do it or not… 8 hours every day.
- You could work at any place where there is an Internet connection available, and more than that, you don’t need that connection on any place because with a mobile phone you can carry Internet with you. Imagine how relaxing would be to work in the beach or in a camping site. If you like the summer you could travel around the world living an endless summer, or on the contrary if you prefer winter you could blog from a ski resort.
- You could earn money even when you weren’t blogging. This is something people often don’t notice. When you have a 9-5 job you are paid for the time you spend in the office but not for the rest of the day you are out of work, but with a highly visited and established blog you earn money while you sleep of while you are in a party with your friends because you can place ads that make money 24 hours a day.
- You wouldn’t have a boss. This is one of the best points too. All of us have to admit we don’t like any boss. He/she could be a good person but is still a boss so we don’t like him/her. Without a boss you don’t have to give reports of your work and you don’t have the sensation of being observed.
- You could spend more time with your family and friends, boyfriend, girlfriend… or doing your favourite hobbies.
It seems to be good, isn’t it? But there are points you have to take in count when you make a living online on your way:
- You are the only responsible person of your results. If things goes wrong you can’t put the blame on someone but you.
- Nobody ensures you a solid income until you are totally established and well related as an Internet professional, so you can have some stress when things don’t go right at all.
- You must be a very organized person because when you are your boss and you don’t have a strict timetable there is a risk of becoming a untidy person, one who goes to bed when the dawn comes and spends most part of the day sleeping.
- You have to pay for your insurances and plans.
What do you prefer? Make a living online seems soooo great!
But for the moment I’ll continue in the traditional way.

¿Ads On Twitter? ¿Why Not?
Written by Alfonso Muñoz on May 19, 2008 – 1:01 pmI found this information published on TechCrunch at the begining of the month. It tells about something that does not surprise me at all. Would you place advertisement on your blog? Would you blog about a product if you were paid for do it? If so, would you twitter about that product if you were paid for it? This is a marketing idea as simple as searching for a famous blogger with thousands of followers and pay him/her for recommend something:
Robert Scoble is a well-known blogger who has shown in the past an attitude against advertising on blogs. He argued that it would be a major factor of the end of the blogosphere, by corrupting the criterion of bloggers.
I don’t have many followers on Twitter but does anyone want me to advertise something? I will say whatever, it only costs $10/word… well we can negotiate that ![]()

Gotbanners Plugin To Put 125×125 Ads
Written by Alfonso Muñoz on May 15, 2008 – 12:07 pmSurely you have seen often in blogs buttons of 125 x 125 pixels linking other sites for whatever reason, the blogger may have sold the advertising space, somebody may have won a contest or whatever. The fact is that in many cases these buttons are static, you can refresh the page and the banners will continue in the same position and this may be less beneficial to those which are below. But this problem is solved by GotBanners. This plugin rotates the buttons randomly showing them in a different place each time the page is refreshed so the advertisers have the same opportunities to appear above the rest.
I have used this plugin to put the winners of the contest I run in my Spanish blog and it is completely simple and efficient, in the image below there are the buttons in the red box:

Anyone who is thinking of selling small spaces for advertising , or wants to award the space in a contest should use this plugin.
The management is as simple. You have to indicate in a text file the location of the images you’ll use as buttons and the links to the blogs they will point. How many buttons you can place? Whatever you want, 2, 4, 6… I do not remember if they have to be in pairs. And you can add the code directly in your theme to show the block or you can use the widget to put it in the sidebar, the easiest thing in the world. This plugin is a good simple solution for this type of advertising.
