My New Mobile Phone, Nokia N81
Written by Alfonso Muñoz on June 18, 2008 – 8:00 amYesterday I had planned to do some maintenance task here in the blog and also write another interesting post but when I arrived home I found a nice surprise. My new gadget had come. This is the culprit of yesterday procrastination, my new and free Nokia N81:

I love free stuff, who doesn’t? My phone provider gave it to me because I was planning to change to another company. My monthly bill is big enough for them to want to keep me as customer, perhaps I should have asked for Nokia N95 in case of they agreed, but if N81is big, compared with my last phone, N95 is bigger and I don’t feel comfortable at all with these sizes, I hope I’ll get used to it but if not I have my old one.
Main features of Nokia N81
- Symbian OS: to run apps like GPS for example.
- WiFi to connect Internet if you have available an access point.
- Bluetooth.
- Mp3 and radio.
- Camera of 2 mega pixels.
So yesterday I spend most of the evening configuring and testing it, and also transferring pictures and videos from the old one. I checked out the mp3 player and the radio, the camera, and tried to connect to my access point but finally I couldn’t do it. A friend told me that he had to upgrade the access point firmware when he bought his Nokia N73 so I’ll try it some day.
Negative points
Here are some points I don’t like, but they are very common points in most of the mobile phones nowadays:
- Size and weight: this is the heavier phone I have had but not the bigger if we take in count the first mobile phones I had years ago. I find estrange to carry it in my pocket because I feel it there, this doesn’t happen with the previous one.
- Nokia PC Suite: this is for Nokia phones like the iTunes for iPods and I suppose for iPhone. You have to use it when you want to transfer files from the PC to the the phone, or at least with mp3 files. I don’t get used to this kind of programs, it was easier with standard mp3 players which are plug and play like pen drives.
I wanted to do a little review, I hope you liked it. Next weekend I’ll spend more time with it but not now because there are a lot of things to do and little time available
